Recent data reveals that Arlington-based enterprises have been prolific in securing funding, with around 200 venture capital and merger transactions since 2018, amounting to over $15.7 billion. This financial activity crosses diverse sectors such as software, fintech, cleantech, big data, AI, and cybersecurity.
Nonetheless, the venture capital environment is significantly skewed, with female entrepreneurs facing notable obstacles in fundraising. To address this imbalance, Arlington Economic Development (AED) has collaborated with Citrine Angels, a prominent angel investment group dedicated to supporting women-led businesses, to deliver the “Elevate Your Venture: Arlington Female Founder Series”—a targeted initiative aiming to close the gender gap in startup financing.
The partnership’s inaugural event, “Is Venture Funding Right For You,” took place on March 5 at Northeastern University’s Arlington campus. The venue was filled to capacity with eager attendees listening to experienced fund managers discuss the advantages and challenges of venture capital investment.
The session delved into the criteria that make a venture ‘investable,’ highlighting the fact that a mere 3% of businesses are actually suited for venture capital investment. The discussions underscored that venture capital isn’t the only path to corporate success, as evidenced by numerous Fortune 500 companies that prospered without it. Attendees were encouraged to access key insights and the event’s presentation materials for further information.
The series is set to proceed with the event “Getting Venture Ready — What Does It Mean and How Do You Get There?” on May 22 at the National Landing Experience Center. This no-cost event will explore various topics, from identifying and assessing potential investors to perfecting a compelling investment pitch.
Entrepreneurs interested in this upcoming event can secure their spot by registering in advance.
