In a strategic move to bolster Malaysia’s digital capabilities, Microsoft has pledged a substantial investment of $2.2 billion over the forthcoming four years. This development was disclosed in conjunction with Satya Nadella’s, Microsoft’s CEO, visit to Kuala Lumpur, which formed a segment of his Southeast Asian tour to showcase the company’s cutting-edge generative AI technology.
Preceding his Malaysian engagement, Nadella had made stops in Indonesia and Thailand. The investment by Microsoft is projected to encompass the establishment of cloud services and AI infrastructure, the provision of AI learning avenues for 200,000 individuals, and the nurturing of the local developer community in Malaysia.
The tech giant emphasized that this would represent the most significant investment it has made in Malaysia since it began operations there 32 years ago. Furthermore, Microsoft intends to collaborate with Malaysian authorities to set up a national AI Centre of Excellence and to strengthen the country’s defenses against cyber threats.
